HP-Laptop db1xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When I attempt to boot the system up and access the bios, the bios asks me for an administrative password. I did not set one up and after the system updated the firmware one was placed in the system. I have conducted the (win+b) using the power button to have the system reestablish the bios but afterwards it still requires a password. The error code I get after 3 attempts is [i 82391827]. I have attempted to try to update the system and nothing, the password remains. I have removed the battery and unplugged the system, same problem. This laptop is roughly 3 weeks old and was purchased new.

@Firemedtech

First off, removing the battery in a laptop does nothing to reset any password.

Second, we are prohibited, by forum policy, to assist folks in resetting any passwords.

Third, You should not be having problems like this with a new PC!

You paid for free HP Tech Support as part of the warranty coverage, so you might as well make use of it.

Unfortunately, we are NOT HP Tech Support and we have no way to diagnose or repair your PC, so while this PC is still under warranty, you should contact HP Customer Support directly to have them put you in touch with HP Technical Support to see what they can do about troubleshooting and repairing your machine remotely.

I did this recently and the HP Tech was able to remotely access my PC from the Internet to check out the problems.

If they are unable to fix your PC, then you need to explore what options you have to get it replaced under the warranty.

After speaking with tech support, I was told I would have to pay to have the laptop repaired. When I mentioned it was only 3 weeks old, he said but this requires a level 2 helpdesk response and you will have to pay for it. I told him, how about you just get your laptop back and I get a refund. HP will get a black eye for NOT fixing it's computers and you will get a negative review. Took it back yesterday. Other than not being able to access the bios, the system appeared to run properly but according to him they would have to replace the board.

Evidently HP's warranties now are in name only and they don't fix anything they sell new. I have owned HP's since 1990 and they have always (not anymore) been quick to fix or repair any issues with their systems. I have also been a Dell service technician and realize the reason their computers are so cheap, they use cheap hardware. I have a few HP laptops that still function but are outdated (XP, Windows 7) but they still work. I have a HP Ryzen 3 laptop running Windows 10 (that the bios still works) that I upgraded to 64Gb of ram but decided to upgrade to the 7 and the SSD. I am sure I just received an item that had a fault and would have been easily fixed and the issue was most likely in the chip but after dealing with their 'call center' and HP's unwillingness to repair their own new systems, it makes me wonder if HP is now owned by Dell.
