Really sorry to hear that you are having this issue.
Just to make sure, did you try a different charger to see if it can get any charge at all while the laptop is off ?
You could try pressing and holding Win + B while turning on the laptop and this would initiate the BIOS recovery menu that will try to recover the BIOS if it was updated before but chances are it will get stuck as this only works if the charger is connected.
Or try turning on the laptop while pressing and holding Win + V and that should reset the CMOS settings as this should not ask you to connect the charger but then again these are the only two workarounds other than that, the unit would have to be repaired.

Yes, I did try multiple other chargers and nothing worked. Unforutnately I also tried the button combination (both) you suggested and those didn't work either.
In terms of sending it in for repair - what kind of cost am I looking at? This computer was over $1200 and I only bought it a few years ago. I can't fathom spending more money to fix it.
Thank you for your help.

Hello,
I know what you mean and i am sorry for this however if the laptop just fails to turn on, chances are its the motherboard that's faulty and on laptops the CPU and GPU are usualy socketed so this does raise the prices a bit. Depending on the exact model, prices might start from 300 dollars and upwards but again, the best bet would be to contact HP in your country to check if they have out of warranty repairs as these tech shops and service centers also have tools to check individual components or run further tests on the unit.
That or you can check the product number on support.hp.com and there should be a maintenance and user guide that will show you how to replace the motherboards and also show you part numbers for motherboards compatible with your unit. Look up one of the part numbers in google and you will find more information about it.
