We understand the problem you are facing, We’re here to help identify the issue and get your device up and running as quickly as possible.

Kindly follow the below steps :

1.Hard Reset / Power Drain

  1. Disconnect AC adapter
  2. Press and hold power button for 15–20 seconds.
  3. Reconnect AC adapter only
  4. Try to power on.

2.Check External Display

  • Connect the laptop to an external monitor via HDMI or VGA.
  • Power on and see if there’s any output.
  • If external display works → the internal screen or cable may be faulty.

3.Check Power Adapter

  • Confirm AC adapter is working (light is on, correct voltage).
  • Try a different compatible HP adapter if possible.

If the issue still persists then kindly follow the below steps.

4.Reset BIOS (Steps are as listed below)

  • Press Windows + B, then Power → hold 2–3 seconds.
  • This triggers BIOS recovery mode on some HP laptops.
  • If it enters recovery, follow on-screen instructions.

( Important : Kindly do not unplug the charger connected and please interrupt the process until you see the login page )

I hope this helps.

@Deep_World

I wrote a reply last evening with thanking you for the suggestions but somehow my reply did not get posted.

I had already tried all 4 of your suggestions without success.  all 4 procedures result in turning on the power light and nothing more.  No beeps.

So as of now the power light is on and I am patiently waiting until the battery is completely drained and then I'll try again but I really have little hope of success.

This laptop is inexpensive and works nicely but it is not designed to be repaired.  The case cannot be opened without special tools and the hard drive is soldered in so data recovery is a real challenge.

I have tried all of the suggested solutions so at this point I am patiently waiting until the battery is completely drained.  This may take a long time since the battery is not removable.  The only drain on the battery is the power light.  When the battery is completely drained I will then give the BIOS recovery another shot unless someone has another suggestion.
