HP Stream Notebook PC 13
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

Originally Windows 8.1 (unsure of 32 or 64 bit).   Upgraded to Windows 10. Unable to reboot. Recovery message Error code 0xc000000f "A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed."  I purchased a display unit. I do not have a recovery CD nor CD port. It has a sealed battery.   The system powers on but strolls between a black screen and the HP logo screen. How can I get it to reboot?  I did the HP trouble shooting - No Power or No start up - NO CHANGE. I did the System Exstensive TEST - EVERYTHING PASSED.

Since the system recovery partition failed to recover the notebook, I don't see what the value of it is anymore.

You are in the right place and you delete the partitions by clicking on the delete prompt.

Then when all partitions have been deleted, you should have the maximum amount of unallocated space.

Click on New>partition, and you should be able to install windows there.

Hi:

Since the PC was previously upgraded to W10, the only suggestion I can offer would be to make your own plain W10 installation media by using the media creation tool at the link below.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

The utility will give you the option to make a bootable W10 USB installation flash drive, so take that option, not the one to make an ISO file.

Hopefully, the PC will boot from the usb installation media you make and reinstall W10.

When you get to the part of the installation script where you are asked to enter a product key, you select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

This was the best progress I've seen in months!!!  I rebooted from the  Windows 10  USB -> it asked me "Which type of installation do you want?"  I chose Upgrade: Install Windows and keep files, settings, and applications.  However, I get a message -  the upgrade option isn't available ... If a copy of Windows is already installed ... remove media and restart your computer.  After Windows has started normally ...."  But it doesn;t restart Windows automatically.  I get the same HP logo blue sreen, then fade to bulue, then black screen that initiated my request for help.

The second option is Custom: Install Windows only (advanced).  When I chose this option I see a note "Windows can't be installed on drive 0 partition 1 (show details)."  I see this note on all of the Drive and Patitions.  ??? What else can I do?  I don't mind deleating everything on the computer and totally starting from factory default.

Should I reinstall Windows 8.1 from a downloaded usb, then upgrade to W10 after I get it working?

Hi:

Using the W10 installation media, I would try selecting the advanced install, and delete all partitions, create one partition using the whole drive, and see if W10 installs that way.

Your suggestion is to delete all "Drive 0 Partition (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) but aren't they needed?  Types are listed as "System, MSR (Reserved), Primary, Recovery" x 2.    I see how to "delete"

How do I create a new partition usigng the "whole drive"?  Is that "Load driver?"  If so, the next screen says "To install the device for your drive, insert installation media containing the driver files, and then click OK.

Paul you are the greatest!!!!  That was the key to my problems.  I hadn't used this computer since November 2016 because I couldn't figureout how to remove all the STUFF that had collected on it.  So my solution was to reboot, but as I've shared, that didn't work so well.   You are amazing!!  Thanks again 🙂

You're very welcome.

Glad to have been of assistance.

Now the PC should have adequate space for Windows, a couple of programs, and one or two picture files (just kidding).  :generic:
