HP EliteBook 820 G3 Base Model Notebook PC

After enrolling my secure boot keys via sbctl in my choice of Alpine Linux i could NOT post my laptop anymore, and i CANNOT clear the keys by all attempts. Trust me. I tried even removing CMOS battery and by all attempts i am currently locked out from my laptop (EDIT: I get no screen out and no beeps or light codes but im not sure im even supposed to be getting some)

Hi,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand that after enrolling your own Secure Boot keys using sbctl on Alpine Linux, the notebook stopped reaching POST, and you have already tried clearing the Secure Boot keys and removing the CMOS battery without success.

Since you are currently getting no display, beeps, or diagnostic light codes, I would not recommend continuing with repeated CMOS/key-clearing attempts. HP notes that HP Sure Start systems do not support the standard manual BIOS recovery or USB BIOS recovery procedures; Sure Start is designed to automatically restore the HP BIOS/firmware from its protected backup if corruption is detected.

At this point, please provide:

Exact HP product/model number (for example, the product number shown on the bottom label).

Whether the power/charging LED comes on when you press the power button.

Whether the fan spins or the keyboard backlight responds.

Whether the HP logo ever appears, even briefly.

Because this occurred immediately after modifying the Secure Boot key database, the exact model is important before recommending any further recovery procedure. Please don't flash unofficial BIOS files or attempt to modify the firmware/chip directly. '

Once you provide the exact product number, we can check the applicable HP recovery procedure and whether that model includes HP Sure Start.

Best regards,
