My HP Victus 15 power button shows no response when I  press it. The battery seems fine, the led lights up when I plug in the charger, and even if not plugged into the wall, it can charge my phone via usb. Started having the problem a few weeks ago, Google recommended the "hard reset" holding the power button for 30 seconds and the "BIOS reset" windows key + B or V and power button. Neither of these showed any effects, but after a few minutes  of randomly hitting buttons it would start up.

Once it was on, everything worked perfectly, even unplugged, it went to battery just fine. But whenever it shut down, it got harder/took longer to turn back on, and now it won't start up at all. The fans don't start, the light on the power button doesn't light, no beeps or anything, but the battery's still fine. This model does not have a removable battery, so I opened the back panel and disconnected the rainbow strip from battery to motherboard then tried all the reset tricks again with no effect.

I had hoped it was the BIOS cr2032 battery that needed to be replaced for 5 bucks, but apparently this model's is integrated with the main battery and should have reset when i disconnected. Any ideas what the problem might be, or if I can  manually force the thing to start by shorting the power pins or something?

@Osullivam, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it can be when your HP Victus 15 won't power on, especially after trying several troubleshooting steps. Based on your detailed description, you've already done a great job isolating the issue. Let's go through a few more steps to help narrow this down further.

Double-Check the Power Supply

  • Ensure you're using the original HP charger.
  • Try a different wall outlet.
  • If available, test with another compatible HP charger to rule out adapter issues.

Perform a Hard Reset (Again)

Even though you've tried this, please follow these exact steps:

  1. Disconnect the charger and all peripherals (USBs, external drives, etc.).
  2. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  3. Reconnect only the charger (no USB devices).
  4. Try powering on the laptop.

BIOS Recovery Attempt

You mentioned trying Windows + B and Windows + V. Try this again with the following method:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Hold Windows + B (or V) and then press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds.
  3. Release the power button but continue holding Windows + B/V for another 10 seconds.
  4. Wait to see if the BIOS recovery screen appears.

CMOS/RTC Reset

Since this model has an integrated RTC battery, disconnecting the main battery (as you did) should reset it. However, to ensure a full power drain:

  • Disconnect the battery again.
  • Hold the power button for 1 minute.
  • Leave the system unplugged for 15–30 minutes.
  • Reconnect the battery and try powering on.
