HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-fd0000 (794H8AV)

Hello, everyone, thank you for taking time to read this;

My Windows 11 HP Laptop has been in storage for a while, I tried to turn it on, but even after charging for many hours and pressing / holding the power button, it just outright will not power on.  All I see is a black screen, there's no LED light, and I verified using different wall outlets, and different chargers, that the charger is definitely not the issue.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Preferably without having to go to a repair shop, and without having to buy a replacement battery, but I do have tools to unscrew the back to remove the battery myself.

@jack1999, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your laptop refuses to power on, especially after being in storage. Let's walk through some steps to help revive your HP 15-fd0000 laptop without needing a repair shop or replacement battery.

Perform a Hard Reset (Battery Disconnect Method)

Since your model has a non-removable battery, we’ll simulate a battery disconnect:

  1. Unplug the charger and remove any connected peripherals (USB drives, external displays, etc.).
  2. Press and hold the power button for at least 30 seconds. This drains residual power and resets the embedded controller.
  3. Plug the charger back in and try powering on again.

If this doesn’t work, proceed to the next step.

Check for Signs of Life

  • Any faint LED blink near the power port or keyboard?
  • Fan spin or noise when pressing the power button?

If there’s no LED or sound, it could be a deeper power delivery issue.

Try the Emergency Reset Pin

Your HP 15-fd0000 may have an emergency pinhole reset on the bottom cover.

  1. Flip the laptop and look for a small pinhole labeled “Reset” or “Emergency Reset”.
  2. Use a paperclip to gently press and hold the button for 5–10 seconds.
  3. Wait a few seconds, then try powering on again.

This bypasses the embedded controller and can help revive a system stuck in a low-power state.

Open the Back Panel (If You're Comfortable)

Since you mentioned you have tools:

  1. Remove the back panel carefully.
  2. Disconnect the battery cable from the motherboard (usually a wide ribbon or plug).
  3. Wait 1–2 minutes, then reconnect it.
  4. Try powering on with the charger connected.

⚠️ Be cautious of static discharge. Use an anti-static wrist strap if available.

Try a BIOS Recovery (If You See Any LED Blink)

If you notice any LED activity, you can attempt a BIOS recovery:

  • Press Windows + B, then hold the power button for 2–3 seconds while still holding Windows + B.
  • Release all keys and wait to see if the BIOS recovery screen appears.
