HI!
I purchased this work book 1.5 years ago, because it is supposed to be hardy. I treat it gently, but do carry it in a travel case with me when I fly about 1X per year.
I had it plugged in and the light was on. I unplugged and turned on and the light went off and it did not boot up (?) I took it to local computer shop because I thought i maybe needed a new power cord. They said they thought it needed a new pin - where power cord plugs in. But that did not work. Now they say they think it is a short in the schematics and will put in a new motherboard. I contacted H.P. and was told that is what H.P. would do, but do not know how much H.P. would charge me? I would hope they expect their product to last longer than 1.5 years.... and maybe give me some break on the price?
What are your thoughts? I bought this computer at the time of my retirement to use for writing, e-mails, paying bills, etc.
Thank you for any insights.

Hello @PsychTeach
Go to a computer store where you can look at and test the notebooks. Get advice there. Do not buy the most expensive and not the cheapest. Take your time and follow your gut feeling.
Good luck
