Help, my HP laptop refuses to turn on. It was working perfectly fine last night but since it ran out of charge, it won’t restart. It’s been on charge since 10:30pm and it is now 6:04am, it only shows a white LED when I plug it in but that’s about as much as I can get from it, response wise. What should I do?

Hi @Gr0wler,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP laptop won’t turn on and only shows a white LED when plugged in, even after charging overnight. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Perform a hard reset
– Disconnect the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
– Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds to drain residual power.
– Reconnect the charger (leave the battery out for now if removable) and try turning it on.

Check the charger and power source
– Ensure the charger is the original HP adapter and rated for your laptop.
– Try a different wall outlet to rule out power issues.

Perform a two-LED or three-LED reset (if supported)
– Some HP laptops have a battery and power reset procedure:
– Disconnect power and battery.
– Hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
– Reconnect power only, then press power button.
– Look for blinking LEDs or beep codes that indicate hardware issues.

Check for signs of display activity
– Even if the screen stays black, listen for fans, HDD/SSD activity, or keyboard lights.
– If any activity occurs, it may be a display or motherboard issue.

Try powering on with minimal hardware
– Disconnect all peripherals (USB drives, external monitors, etc.).
– If the battery is removable, try starting with only the charger connected.

Use BIOS recovery key (if supported)
– Some HP laptops allow BIOS recovery: press Windows + B (or Fn + B) while pressing the power button.
– Hold the keys for several seconds; listen for beeps or screen activity.

Test with another compatible charger
– A failing adapter can show a white LED but not provide enough power to start the system.

I hope this helps.
