There may be a problem with the 1tb Kingston.  I assume it is NVME and has a single slot in the contact connector.

I looked at the bios listing for 15-dk here and there are two drives mentioned in "configuration".

st1000lm049-2gh172 which is a 2tb HDD and

Intel mempek1j016gah which is an older "two slot" NVME SATA type that is only good for optane memory.

Unless I am mistaken, the Kingston cannot be used in that slot.  It is also possible that BIOS page is wrong as it was removed from HP and I had to find it in the wayback archive.

Please confirm if your laptop used that Intel with two slots or if it came originally with the newer single slot NVME.

If you do not have an optane ssd then you must disable optane in the bios.  lt is done on the same bios page as those two "disks" are shown.

If you have an optane type nvme ssd then you can enable optane but you will need to do a cloud recovery of the OS.  Trying to install win11 or win10 from a clean Microsoft USB the install will ask for drives to make the optane work.  Those drivers are normally in the cloud recovery but can probably be downloaded.  I would need to know which generation intel CPU you have.

What is your product ID? Do you have cloud recovery?

Go here and enter your serial number and look for the type of ssd and hdd that your system came with.  Let me know what you find or post the link to the parts page.

Hey HP Community,

You’re not explaining it poorly—the situation itself is messy, and honestly it sounds like you’ve been sent in circles. When a laptop freezes even during a fresh Windows install (especially at a fixed point like 12%), after RAM, SSD, fan, battery, and even motherboard checks, it usually points to a deeper issue like the CPU or chipset failing under load or heat—something not easily repairable or worth the cost on a 5–6 year old machine. The fact that every shop finds a different “fault” suggests they’re guessing rather than diagnosing properly. At this stage, instead of spending more money chasing parts, your best move is to either get one final, trusted diagnostic from a reputable specialist with proper testing tools, or accept that the laptop has a core hardware fault and put that money toward a replacement—because continuing like this will likely just waste more time and cash.

Thanks a lot!!

Hey HP Community,

You’re not explaining it poorly—the situation itself is complicated, and frankly, it seems like you’ve been going in circles. When a laptop freezes even during a new Windows installation (especially at a specific point like 12%), after checking the RAM, SSD, fan, battery, and even the motherboard, it typically indicates a more serious problem such as the CPU or chipset failing under stress or heat—issues that are not easily fixable or worth the expense on a 5–6 year old device. The fact that each shop identifies a different ‘fault’ implies they are making guesses rather than conducting a proper diagnosis. At this point, instead of investing more money in parts, your best option is to either obtain one last, reliable diagnostic from a reputable expert with the right testing equipment, or acknowledge that the laptop has a fundamental hardware issue and allocate that money towards a new one—because continuing down this path will likely just lead to further time and financial waste.

Thanks!!
