For a couple of years now I have had problems starting this computer. I tried googling for fixes but to no avail.

This is what happens -

When firing up the computer in the vicinity of the modem there is no problem, BUT when in a different room (30 feet away ) then I get the dreaded BSOD.

Over the last few days, I disabled the wifi, and now BSOD has gone away.

 

I noticed when first powering up computer (next to modem) and after login details entered there is a slight delay in taskbar symbol switching from No to YES internet connection. Is this normal?

 

I have run all sorts of diagnostics using the HP app but no errors were detected.

The notebook is 7 years old, I can not afford to buy another one.

 

I would much appreciate any suggestions on this fix.
