Hi, I have this HP pavilion that I was given to fix. When I plug it in, the caps lock blink 3 slow and 2 fast before repeating the sequence. I tried restarting and replacing the ram with no change.
I tried pressing each, f10, win + b, win + v, win + ctrl + shift +b, with no change.
screen is consistently black. I also plugged it into an external display but nothing changed. Seems to be ram issue so I don’t want to replace mobo unless I have to. One thing I did notice when I opened the ram was that the ram slot had some green sticky **bleep** on it which I cleaned with alcohol. All advice is appreciated.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the computer is not booting to Windows and the caps lock light is blinking.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
I recommend you follow the below steps in the below article and check if it helps.

I appreciate your response. I tried to reseat the RAM and replace it, but it did not affect laptop behavior.
I have ordered another motherboard. I will see if the RAM slot is the source of all heartache.

Yes, it looks like an issue with the motherboard and I am positive that once you replace the motherboard it should take care of the issue.
If any other questions arise, please feel free to write back to me.
