I want to try out a different operating system (because Windows 10 leaves me with very little space free on the tiny 64GB) and I want to use an external hard disk instead of erasing the current operating system I have installed however it doesn't want to fully boot off of any external drives. Yes, they are EFI installs of Windows but when I try to boot to it, it tries to, but then the drive literally shuts off (the controller is still on but the disk stops spinning) mid-boot and as a result it freezes and enters a boot loop until Windows enters the automatic repair recovery.
I tried an SSD, I tried using the USB-C port (which puts out a lot more current), I tried externally powering the drive, I tried different cables and none of them worked which leads me to some kind of read error internally. Yes, the BIOS is up to date but that didn't change anything.
