I have updated the system UEFIBIOS to the latest version.  I have installed Windows 10 and Ubuntu 21.04, both under UEFI. What settings to allow me to access the dual boot menu, please?   I can either enter only windows, or get stuck in a no boot loop. Or, should I start again; installing both operating systems in legacy mode?

Thank you WAWood.

OK in fact I managed to sort it out - used the boot selector to boot into Ubuntu; then used the "boot-repair" utility (default advanced options) ... rebooted ... and the laptop went straight into Windows.  This was as expected, since it appears that this UEFI firmware does not allow the boot order to be changed.   However, boot-repair did suggest that this might happen, and it also suggested the workaround: I used an elevated command prompt to change the default boot entry of the Windows bootloader: bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi

Hey presto, the laptop now boots into grub; giving you the options of continuing into either Ubuntu or Windows.

I'm sorry, but HP does not provide support for Linux distros.

IF you replace the preloaded Windows OS with a Linux distro, or add a Linux distro, then you assume full responsibility for maintaining that -- including solving any problems with booting the other OS and/or installing the other OS.

Modern PCs with UEFI, instead of the older BIOS, are especially difficult to install because you have to go into the UEFI settings and make several changes before you can even boot from a USB stick -- and we are unable to assist in that work.

Your best bet for support now is to contact the support forum of the distro you are using.

Since you are using Ubuntu, go here: https://ubuntuforums.org/

Good Luck
