HP Laptop - 14-dk1003dx

Hi,

My laptop is currently displaying a black screen with this message:

Hard Disk Error

Please run the Hard Disk Test in System Diagnostics.

Hard Disk 1 (3F1)

F2 System Diagnostics

For more Information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup

When I go to System Diagnostics, it displays 5 options:

Memory Test

Storage Tests

Hard Drive Check

Language

Exit

When I do the Storage test, it comes up as no storage installed, regardless if I do a quick check or an extensive check.

When I do the Hard Drive Check, it comes up as one of two messages. The first says: No hard drive installed. Please check that the power and data cables are connected properly. At other times, it says that that it is taking actions with Exectuive DST... , with "No LONG DST available" underneath.

However, when waiting nothing happens.  F10 BIOS setup utility and F9 Boot Manager-Boot Option Menu are also available, but changes made have not resulted in anything. The legacy option is disabled but I cannot find any information about Optane. Numerous other messages have been displayed before, such as "Boot device not found, please install and operating system on your hard disk - Hard Disk - 3F0, etc.  A few times I managed to get it to a windows desktop, but none of my files were on the desktop, just the programs, and as soon as I clicked something or typed a key, it glitched, then after some minutes, went black.

I have had this laptop for around 2 years, and it's behaved fine. I'm hoping for a fix or solution that will allow me to keep my files, and can't figure out how to get them off. Thank you!

hi

Hello
it can be a material problem!
You can try several things in order to try to recover your data, I give some explanations here, but in French!

que faire en cas d' erreur / échec dst du disque dur - HP Support Community - 7338574

You can try a bootable cd / dvd type live cd (linux)

https://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/how-to-retrieve-windows-files-using-a-linux-live-cd/

you can try removing the hard drive, in order to connect it to another computer internally, or with a usb adapter!

https://www.muo.com/tag/connect-get-data-off-hard-drive/
If your disk is not completely out of order, this gives you a small chance

start by trying to back up your data

i see

128 GB M.2 SSD

you will probably need an adapter other than mentioned, if you need to connect it to a computer
