Hi, just wanted to let you know we have the same model. $2k laptop and I have had system fan errors and the hard disk error for two years almost now. I tried everything and even completely wiped the PC; no avail.

It's crazy these are common issues with the x360 spectre models over the years and HP has been mute on specific fixes. I will never buy an HP again, so truly it is why I don't even bother with their miserable customer support.  When I initially tried to do the customer support I was like two days out of my warranty and they told me I can extend the warranty for a price; then told me to ship my laptop out to them for a lead time of 10 days. This is my lifeline, I am self-employed, so at the time I couldn't even try it. They wouldn't send a loaner.

Welcome to HP support community.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.

can you help me regarding that as well because its been almost a year and I am stuck with this problem too..

HP doesn't even have a store in London, UK, so that adds icing to the cake. Cannot even get it fixed anywhere. I am not sure why did I choose HP for such expensive laptop. Absolutely ridiculous.

I had a similar issue with a 2017 thirteen inch model I found if I pressed in one area on the case it more likely booted up correctly so I used a binder clip until I was frustrated enough to learn how to replace the SSD. And fortunately before buying one (very expensive replacement on HP part store) I just unplugged battery, unscrewed the SSD, removed it, wiped the connectors (no obvious dust), and replaced it in the port. So far so good. Seems like it was just a loose connection.

hope this helps

So this worked for me as well. I replaced the fan, and I also removed and blew out the SSD.  No more system fan error and no ore hard drive boot issues.

It's funny, when I pressed down near the neter key I found it'd boot as well. The system fan I had was obviously tampered with before I ever opened the product. There was stripped screws and the fan blades were bent. I bought this brand new. HP did some shady stuff with this release for sure.

I have the same problem as you with my HP Spectre Model 13 AF001no.

I got the first bluescreen last Wednesday. Then more and more frequently the next couple of days, before the computer refused to boot on Friday with the same 3F0 screen as you have already reported (Boot device not found. Please install an operating system on your hard disk.) From time to time it still boots and Windows is launching like normal. Then after a while (which seems to become shorter and shorter), a new blue screen followed by the 3F0 screen when trying to reboot.

I delivered the laptop to a local service shop on Friday. They tried replacing the hard drive, which did not solve the problem. The they tried to upgrade the BIOS, which did also not solve the problem. Now they're telling me that they believe it could be the hard drive slot which is malfunctioning. They cannot help me further and has told me the only solution would be to send it to a HP centre, with a lead time of around 2 weeks, which is simply too long as I'm currently travelling with my laptop. I will probably have to buy a new one and get this one fixed later (if possible). I'm extremely disappointed with the quality of this laptop which was bought for around USD 2000 just over a year ago. How can HP make laptops with internal components which only last until a few months after the guarantee period has expired (1 year)?

If anyone has found a more easy fix for this problem, I would be very interested to hear your story.

It is obivously very disencouraging to see that the thread starter is experiencing the same pain with his laptop one year after he reported this error.

Hi, I'm using the HP Spectre X360 13" which I bought in 2018. It has the EXACT same problem. When I'm unlucky, I will get this 'no hard disk 3fo' prompt when I open my laptop from sleep. I had to push the power button and it will reboot and be fine. I don't know whether anyone has solved this issue but it's becoming irritating and frustrating.

I had all the same problems and symptoms. Boot device errors that became increasingly frequent, diags would pass one day, the next the drive could not be seen, etc.

I solve my issue by taking the back off the device (videos on web how to do this) and simply reset the ssd by removing it and reinserting it.  My laptop has been rock solid since. It appears it was just a loose connection.

Hi all, I posted on here several months ago with this issue and thought i would give a brief (but probably not very helpful) update. I wrestled with this problem for months, and because it usually rebooted fine if I tried again, I was hoping the problem wasn't serious. Unfortunately, it got worse--more and more frequent, and I started having to manually press the power button multiple times to keep rebooting until finally the error message stopped coming up and the computer booted correctly. I don't have any tech skills, so opening up the laptop myself was a risk I didn't want to take. I ended up giving in and purchasing an extended warranty, and then sending the laptop in to HP to be repaired.

I have to say that experience was pretty good. They sent me a box right away using overnight shipping, and I was able to get the laptop back within five days. There was no loaner laptop offered, unfortunately, but I was able to deal because I have a computer at work. When the laptop came back, multiple parts had been replaced including the fan, hard drive, part of the laptop shell (??), and other things. It's working fine now, thankfully, so I imagine it must have been a hardware issue.

Good luck to everyone else! This is such a ridiculous issue to have for a supposedly high-end laptop, so hopefully HP has learned some valuable lessons.
