HP 15 cb-026ur
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello!
I got a HP 15-cb026ur laptop with pre-installed on HDD OS Win10. Few days ago I istalled the SSD ADATA XPG 8200 PRO 256Gb m.2 NVME.
I faced the same problem like a TS. But with some differences.
What I tried to do:
- I checked the SSD properties thru PartDisk utility and saw the it is not a boot device.
- both of SSD and HDD was totally formatted but there were no improvement of problem
- I tried to use MBR and GPT layouts for SSD but both are doesn't work
- I tried to install the OS in UEFI and in Legacy mode
In the UEFI mode the UEFI didn't recognize my SSD as a boot device.
In the Legacy mode I can choose my SSD as a boot device but I can't install the OS to them.
The Windows installer told that SSD can't be a boot device because it is not permitted by BIOS settings...
But I didn't find any settings regarding the SSD drive in BIOS.

I had tried almost all of possible ways but no one work. Only 1 way I didn't try: to dismount the HDD from the laptop and to try to install the OS to SSD...This is most terrible way cause I don't know how to remove the rear cover and afraid that I may damage something during this operation.

Do anyone have an idea how to solve this issue using software method?

Thank you in advance for support!

@Dr_ZoidBRG,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,

Are you trying to boot with both the hard drives connected to the computer? If yes, then I recommend you remove the SATA hard drive and connect only the SSD and check whether the computer boots to Windows.

If you continue facing the issue, I recommend you install a fresh copy on Windows on the SSD and check if it helps.

Let me know how it goes for further assistance.

Thank you for reply!

Yes, I tried to boot with both hard drives connected to the laptop.

I have seen the tips regarding removing the SATA HDD from the computer. Actually my laptop is under the warranty now and SSD was installed during the warranty repair.

I realized that this solution looks like only effective way to install the Win10 to the SSD, so I brought my laptop to the official service center and asked them to install the OS on the SSD.

I didn't receive the feedback from them yet but I think they will do it like you advised.

Dear all!

Today I received feedback from official service.

Please note!

The ADATA XPG 8200 pro is NOT COMPATIBLE with HP Pavilion 15-cb-026ur and perhaps with all of this model line.

There is something strange, maybe deep software incompatibility but on my HP laptop this SDD didn't work as system drive. At the same time this SSD was launched at ASUS laptop so there is no defects in the SSD.

I put the "accepted solution" to @Jeet_Singh's post but actually this way also didn't help.

@Dr_ZoidBRG,

As suggested by the service center, the SSD is not compatible with the PC and thus it's not working.

In order to check the compatibility, I would recommend you go through the Maintenance and service guide of your notebook. Here you will find the parts which are tested and compatible on your notebook.

Chapter 1. Product description - Page number 2

Chapter 3. Illustrated Parts catalog - Page number 18 & 22

Please note, these are the parts which are tested on your PC, If you wish to try other parts you can try it at your own discretion, HP Doesn't recommend any upgrade/downgrade of any hardware parts or software that is bundled with the product. It may affect the manufacturer's warranty and performance.

Alternatively, You could replace the part on your own, use the HP Partsurfer to identify the part: Click here & order it via the HP Parts store (Click here).

Let me know if this helps!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂
