I have an HP Stream BCM943142HM .  A friend was trying to help me and activated a screen that comes on right when I power up my notebook which states:  "Enter Administrator password or power on password"

I know the password so it doesn't prevent me from using this notebook, but I would PREFER to simply remove or eliminate this screen in order to save time and go straight to Windows 10.

Can you help me?

Thank you very much!

Larry

Hi,

You can remove the requirement for a power on password as follows.

Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to access the Start-up menu and then select f10 to enter the Bios menu.  Use the arrow keys to highlight the Security tab and hit enter.  Use the arrow keys again to highlight power on password and hit enter.  Enter the current password and then for the new password, just leave this blank and hit enter - do the same for the confirmation field.  Press f10, select to save the new settings and hit enter.

David,

Thank you very much.  That worked.  I eliminated that screen and that extra step!  :generic:

I have another question.  I don't know if you can help me.  If not, please tell me in which forum I should post it in order to get help.

I just did a fresh install of Windows 10 on this HP Stream notebook.  Now the touch pad quit working.  And when I go into Device Manager to try and fix it and update the driver for the touch pad, there is not even that option.  Touch pad does not exist in the section for mouse and pointing devices.  Only the generic mouse I am using now appears.

How can I fix this?

Thank you!

Hi,

You're welcome and good to hear that worked Ok :generic:

I see you've subsequently posted the additional issue on another thread, but do let me know if the problem persists.
