Hello there,
I have purchased my laptop from store. While setting up Windows11 laptop, we have created a new Microsoft account. When I try to find Bitlocker Key and ID in that account I did not observe any. Instead there was message given that no key is found and search on another account. As I am not sure who has installed Windows11 from the beginning itself who might have received key in there Microsoft account. Now if I have to find it out, I won't be able to get it. Then how am I supposed to retried my data if Bitlocker locks my drives and I am not allowed to access it. Every article that I have searched is about finding it out on the Microsoft account. Microsoft says that we are not the owner for this.
Kindly help to get the Key and ID.
Thank you!!

@AmeyP2493, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
If your HP laptop is asking for a power-up code or password and you don't have it, you can follow these steps to recover or bypass the issue:
Resetting Your Microsoft Account Password:
- If the password is for your Microsoft account, you can reset it using another device.
- Go to the Microsoft Recover your account page and follow the on-screen directions to reset your password.
BIOS Password Recovery:
- If the power-up code or password is for BIOS, you will need to reset or bypass it.
- You can try the following steps:
- Shut down the laptop and remove any peripheral devices.
- Disconnect all external devices and power cables.
- Try removing the battery (if the battery is removable) and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
- Reinsert the battery and try powering on the laptop.
- Also, you may refer to this guide: HP Notebook PCs - Recovering the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) | HP® Support
Also, you can refer to this post by the community experts: Solved: HP BIOS ADMIN PASSWORD LOST - HP Support Community - 5873081
If this doesn't work, we may need to consider getting the device repaired, as HP doesn't set a default admin password. In that case, the system board might need to be addressed.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hello Zoey, I am not satisfied with this response. As we purchase our systems from some shop who might have already setup the Microsoft account in it. In this case, the BitLocker Key and ID might be available with them or might not be. How the purchaser of system is going to get the key in their Microsoft account if the setup was done by someone else.
Also, if something happens due to which our systems require someone else has done.
You need to find better solution for this for better user experience. Maybe while setting up system, you need to create temporary copy in the system. When someone else by such system, they need to input this key while registering after purchase.
I am really disappointed with this solution for such important security.
