I was reading a post from @Philipos1 regarding How to run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI from USB; posted  ‎01-04-2019 02:51 PM - edited ‎01-04-2019 03:06 PM

I too would like to do this, for a similar reason; I wish to update the BIOS from a USB thumb drive.

@Mark5642, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Could you give me the link for the original post you mentioned?

Also, you can use this link to install UEFI- https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/pc-diags.html

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Thank you for answering my post; the original post link I referenced is here; https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/How-to-run-HP-PC-Hardware-Diagnostics-UEFI-fr...

The use case is the same, I tried restoring the BIOS using the windows key + b sequence

The onboard diagnostic program only has a check disk and check memory;

There are no displayed devices in the F9 boot menu

Ideally, I want to make a bootable USB thumb drive with an updated diagnostic program that will allow me to update the BIOS

I haven't been able to make the laptop recognize anything as a boot device.

I made a bootable Nortan USB thumb drive and the laptop didn't notice.

Thank you, I was able to boot with the UEFI tool on a thumb drive,  "hold the F2 while powering up"

Alas, the hard drive is so corrupted, I was forced to do a complete OS install and later do an extensive disk recovery process to restore pics and music; not much else.
