Now I am not able to open with the PIN or the fingerprint. It says to with two hours. But after all this time I try to open again but it says: This option is desactivated due to several fails to open. Try other option or wait al leat two hours and try again.
I only have PIN or fingerprint. And the fingerprint fails.

Hi @Cr1910,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
It sounds like you are experiencing an issue where both the fingerprint recognition and PIN login are failing on your HP Pavilion laptop, possibly due to multiple failed attempts. Here's a step-by-step guide to help resolve the issue:
1. Wait for the Lockout Period to End
- The system locks you out after several failed attempts to prevent unauthorized access, and you should wait at least 2 hours for the lockout period to expire. During this time, avoid any further login attempts.
2. Check if PIN Option is Re-enabled
- After the lockout period, when you try to log in again, check if the PIN login option is available. If it is, attempt to log in using your PIN.
3. Use Safe Mode to Reset Security Settings (if PIN is still not working)
- If your PIN option is still not working after the 2-hour wait:
- Restart your laptop and immediately press the Shift + F8 keys (or repeatedly press F8) to enter Advanced Boot Options.
- From the menu, choose Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- After your computer restarts, select 4 (Safe Mode) to boot in safe mode.
- Once in Safe Mode, you can attempt to reset your PIN or reconfigure fingerprint settings via the Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
4. Reset the PIN (if applicable)
- If you are still unable to use the PIN, you can try resetting it once you regain access to the system through another method. This might involve logging in via Microsoft Account recovery, if you have linked it.
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options and follow the steps to reset your PIN.
5. Microsoft Account Recovery (if you forgot your PIN)
- If you're unable to log in with either option, and you have a Microsoft Account linked to your laptop, you can try logging in with your Microsoft Account password instead of the PIN.
- On the login screen, click on Sign-in options and choose to use the password instead.
- If you can't remember your Microsoft Account password, you can reset it via Microsoft’s account recovery page.
6. Use the Windows Recovery Environment
- If you are still unable to log in, you might need to use the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) to restore or reset the system.
Kindly refer to the steps on this link to perform system restore on your laptop and let me know if that resolves the issue.
If the issue still persists, click on this link to perform a recovery on your Laptop. (Take a backup of the data before performing a recovery)
7. Fingerprint Setup:
- If the issue was with fingerprint recognition, once you regain access to your system, you can reset or reconfigure your fingerprint settings:
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Fingerprint.
- Remove the old fingerprints and add new ones.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a great day ahead!

Hello Irwin6. I followed your recomendations and finally I was able to recover and unblock the situation.
I don't know why but, after the period of two hours it doesn't work and got the same answer.
After repeat two times the process I forgot the PIN (I really did not forgot it) I recover the access.
Many thank for your long list of possible ways. I keep it for the future.
Many thanks , good job.
