Hello

Does any one still have a link to the recovery BIOS software for a

Hp laptop model 15 n098sa
Product number F4T62EA#ABU

It is no longer supported by HP and they recommend using the forums for assistance.

Its an old laptop that my sister has been using and it has developed a corrupt BIOS. The 2 CAPs light flash.

Attempts to use Win+B or Win+v or even just B on bootup are all unsuccessfull.
Attempted to use the HP site to create a USB BIOS recovery, no longer supported.

Nothing else wrong with the laptop, will be a shame for it to become e-waste over something as simple as a bios recovery.

Can any one help?

Very strange there appears to be a problem with the network

https://support.hp.com/lt-en/drivers/hp-pavilion-15-notebook-pc-series/model/6454651

I get an error trying to open the above using Microsoft Edge or Chrome but Firefox works fine

Chrome was working fine until just recently.  It might be a cookie problem where you need to clear your history including recent cookies.  I have to clear all my cookes about once every 2-3 weeks or site here at HP do not load properly.

this is the bios download for F.72

use firefox or safari

The software is here and for windows 7, 8 and 10

https://support.hp.com/lt-en/drivers/hp-pavilion-15-notebook-pc-series/model/6454651

You can try the bios restore using USB flash the "second part of 3"

HP support video for bios recovery

Click here to see how to recover your BIOS.
Do 1, 2, and the first part of 3.
For the second part of 3 you will need a USB flash drive and possibly an
older BIOS if the recent BIOS caused the problem

For laptops, step 2 "CMOS reset" there is no cmos battery nor cmos switch and no need to open the laptop. Use the Windows key + 'v' as explained here.

=====

You can replace the bios, replace the motherboard or possibly program the chip using a 341 programming tool.
 (this tutorial might be useful).
An HP bios flash is discussed here

Sorry, it does not look good and it seems you have already tried all the first things to do.

Thankyou for the reply.

But when putting in the model number of the laptop on hp website to download the usb bios software. The hp website says that this model is no longer supported and no longer available on their site.

They refer to ask in the forums or third party sites.

Some one must still have that usb bios recovery software for this model of laptop somewhere

I have already tried the other forms of bios recovery you have listed.

Google has links to some of the older laptops and that is how I found the bios downloads

Did you create a bootable USB flash drive as explained in part 2 of 3?

When you power up your system the leds on the flash drive should flash once at the instant power is applied.  They will then flash about three to five seconds later (hopefully). When they flash a second time that means the files are being read from the flash drive. If  you never see it flash a second time then the boot loader is damaged and you cannot recover the bios unless you use a programming tool or replace the chip.  You hold down the win+B key when powering up with the USB flash inserted.

BeemerBiker, you sir are a legend
that is exactly what i needed.

USB boot drive created with that update.
BIOS recovered.
Just build a new Win10 lite OS on the laptop

All appears to be working.
Thankyou very much. Saved a perfectly good laptop from the e-waste tip.

I am glad you got it working unlike these owners.

It is always dangerous to upgrade bios. Unless there is a real need and the HP support assistant requests the upgrade, I would not do it. Look at the BIOS revision history and see if an upgrade is useful. Updates that improve security are needed in a corporate environment but for gaming system they will likely slow down your system.
I personally would not upgrade any gaming BIOS that was only security related unless the PC was used in a corporate, industrial or military organization.
