Hi @Ninngh

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how worrying it feels when your HP Omen 16 Transcend refuses to power up, especially after it has been running smoothly for so long. Thank you for sharing the details about the RAM upgrade and the observations with the fans and caps lock blinking.

Let’s go through a structured set of steps together to help narrow down the cause and bring the system back to life.

Step 1: Perform a Power Reset

  • Disconnect the power adapter and remove any connected peripherals.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge residual power.
  • Reconnect the adapter and try powering on again.

Step 2: Check the RAM Modules

  • Since you upgraded the RAM, reseat both modules carefully.
  • Remove one module and try starting the laptop with only one installed.
  • Swap the modules between slots to see if the system powers up with a single stick.

Step 3: Interpret the Blink Code

The caps lock blinking pattern (3 long, 2 short) is a diagnostic code pointing to a hardware issue. It often relates to memory or system board checks. Testing with one RAM module at a time helps confirm if the memory is the cause.

Guide: HP Notebook PCs – Troubleshooting LED Blink Codes

Step 4: Run Hardware Diagnostics (if system powers on)

  • If the laptop powers on after reseating RAM, press Esc repeatedly at startup to open the Startup Menu.
  • Press F2 to launch System Diagnostics and run the memory and system board tests.

Guide: HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows

Step 5: Check Power Adapter and Battery

  • Ensure the power adapter is delivering charge by testing with another compatible adapter if available.
  • If the battery is removable, try starting the laptop with the battery removed and only the adapter connected.

Step 6: BIOS Recovery (if system attempts to start)

  • If the laptop powers but does not boot, use the BIOS recovery feature.
  • Turn off the laptop, then press and hold Windows key + B, and while holding them, press the power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release the power button but keep holding Windows + B until the BIOS recovery screen appears.

Guide: HP Notebook PCs – Recovering the BIOS

By following these steps, you can isolate whether the issue is with the upgraded memory, the power system, or the BIOS. Starting with reseating RAM and interpreting the blink code is the most direct path forward.
