Pavilion 15-au117na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Product name: HP pavilion notebook PC.
Model: 15-au117na.
OS: Windows 10.
Error messages: None.
Recent changes: None, except automatic updates from Microsoft.
Issue/problem: Laptop refusing to come on. Nothing happens on pressing and holding the POWER button. I also note the pink light beside the power cord port is blinking. I'm not sure if this is normal for it.

What I have done so far: I tried to do a powee reset but it didn't help. Note that my laptop does not have a removable battery. I also tried to do running through the NO POWER NO BOOT TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE located at https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05336130 but I discovered several steps require that my laptop is powered on. But the problem is that my laptop is completely lifeless .Not even a sound when I press and hold the POWER button.

Please what do I do? It's sort of desperate

Hi

First please try this...
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768/

This works for most HP Laptops (and some Desktops)...

To perform a power reset on a laptop with a sealed or non-removable battery:
Turn off the computer.
Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.
Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
For most laptops, press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds to reset.

AND I know you probably already tried.

Next is

Press and Hold the WinKey + B scenario...

  • Turn off the computer, and then connect the power cord.
  • Press and hold the Windows key and the B key at the same time, and then press and hold the power button for 2 to 3 seconds.
  • Release the Power button but continue pressing the Windows and B keys. You might hear a series of beeps.
The HP BIOS Update screen displays and the recovery begins automatically. Follow any on-screen prompts to continue the startup to complete the recovery.

Hi,

First, you should make sure the ac adapter is working. The blinking light could indicate that the PC is not receivinfsufficient power to start.

David

Hi Lil_Boy_Blue, I already explained in my initial post that I have done a power reset and also the BIOS Update. Neither of them helped. That's why I came to HP support

Hi Iomare, I had this suspicion too because of the blinking light but didn't pursue it further. I'll now go look for a separate power cord and see what happens, and update this discussion afterwards

AH!

I just read "Recent changes: None, except automatic updates from Microsoft." and didn't realise that inclued a BIOS update.

Hi Lil_Boy_Blue,

Apologies. You probably misunderstood me. Under the WHAT I HAVE DONE SO FAR section, I explained that I had ran through the NO POWER NO BOOT TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE located at https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05336130 but got to a stage where it was obvious I had to be switch my laptop on. But I can't switch it on. That's why I came to the forum. The BIOS Update was the second step after the Power Reset in the NO BOOT TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE. I ran through all the steps until I came to the steps which required my putting on my laptop. That's where I got stuck. I need help, bro

Hi Iomare, I managed to obtain a new AC adapter but the laptop still won't turn on when I plug in the new adapter. In addition, i note the pink-color light beside the power cord port also blinks with the new adapter. What does this mean now? I do need to switch on my laptop . Any further bright ideas?

Hi, a friend of mine came around and started fiddling with my laptop and SURPRISINGLY it came on. Initially, it showed normal SIGN IN screen as I had sent it to sleep the last time I used it. But, I just put it on again now and a confusing screen about "HP PC HARDWARE DIAGNOSTICS UEFI" telling me to SELECT A LANGUAGE came on. I selected "English" and now have a screen showing a list to choose from (see uploaded image), including:

- System Information

- System Tests

- Components Tests

- Firmware Management

- Test Logs

- Language

Which one will I select please? Please see uploaded image.

My laptop just came on and this!My laptop just came on and this!

Thanks
