HP Pavilion x360 14 Convertible PC 14m-dy1000 (436S7AV)

This is an HP Pavilion 360 convertible Model 14m-dy1033dx

Product ID 4P8P1UA#ABA

Purchased 11/14/2021

There is no battery to remove.

I have tried:

- "hard reset" and it doesn't work

-unplugging, leaving it alone for several minutes, pressing start

-power on, press F11 repeatedly, brings up bitlocker

-entered passcode - remains in infinite loop

I have tried using the BitLocker code to unlock the system. It doesn't work. This is the error I have:

E_FVE_SECUREBOOT_CHANGED

Is it dead?? I am very attached to it.... 😞

Any suggestions?

Hi @JulieJWA,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating this must be, especially with a device you're attached to. From what you've described—having tried a hard reset, attempting to boot via F11, encountering BitLocker, and receiving the error E_FVE_SECUREBOOT_CHANGED—it seems the system is stuck in a secure boot loop due to a change that BitLocker is detecting as a potential security risk.

Since the battery is internal and can't be removed, and software-level resets haven't resolved the issue, the first step now is to run a full hardware diagnostics test to ensure all key components (like the storage drive and motherboard) are functioning properly. This will help us determine if the issue is hardware-related or if we need to look deeper into secure boot/OS recovery paths.

Here’s what we recommend next:

Extensive Test -

1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

3. On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.

4. Click Extensive Test.

Please let us know the results of the diagnostics, and we'll guide you through the next steps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello Vikram,

Thank you for the response. I ran the System Extensive Test and everything is PASSED.

Any other suggestions?

Hi @JulieJWA,

Thank you for letting me know about the test results.

What You Can Do Next

1. Access BIOS and Check Secure Boot Settings

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Turn it back on and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then press F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Go to the Boot or Security tab > Check if Secure Boot is Enabled or Disabled.
    • If it’s disabled, try enabling it, save changes, and reboot.
    • If it’s enabled, try disabling it and reboot.

Sometimes, toggling this can allow BitLocker to reinitialize properly.

2. Re-enter BitLocker Recovery Key

  • On the blue BitLocker screen, select “Skip this drive” and follow prompts (if available).
  • If not, try entering your full 48-digit recovery key (from your Microsoft account: Sign in to your account).

If it still loops, proceed to recovery.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

That did not work.

I took it to a specialist who ran a diagnostic - apparently, Windows is no longer on the laptop. He told me this is happening because the newest 24H2 update is "breaking" computers.

This is really frustrating. I am paying $175 + tax to have a new Windows installation. He tells me he can't guarantee this won't happen again.

It's less expensive than replacing the laptop, so that's the good news.

Hi @JulieJWA,

Thanks again for checking the laptop and running diagnostics. I’ve learned that instead of installing a regular Microsoft copy of Windows, it's possible to install the original HP OEM version of Windows at no cost.

HP provides an official tool to create a recovery USB. All that’s needed is:

  • A 32GB or larger empty USB flash drive
  • Access to another Windows 10 or 11 PC with internet

HP's Recovery Media Creation tool will guide the process of downloading the correct factory image and creating a bootable USB for the system.

Using this method, you’ll get back the original software and drivers specific to this HP model, which might help avoid some compatibility or update issues like what happened with 24H2.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
