I just got a computer from my grandparents, did a hard reset and it won’t go through initial reboot

HP Recommended
HP 15-f233wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

My grandparents gave me their laptop that they didn’t use. I reset everything so I could start it like new but every time it goes through initial setup it freezes or goes in a never ending buffer. It stops at a 4GB update screen sometimes, other times I’m able to make it to logging into my Microsoft profile but it freezes immediately after. Any suggestions?

Hi:

 

Run the hardware diagnostics test.  F2 to check hard drive and memory to rule out any hardware issues.

EF386354-3762-4618-ACC8-72082473DE46.jpegI did these yesterday and still haven’t had luck. It still freezes at various points throughout the initial setup, furthest I’ve gotten is to the create pin, and signing into my Microsoft, only for it to freeze after creating a pin.

OK, then what you can try other than paying for recovery media from HP would be this...

 

Using another Windows PC and an 8 GB USB flash drive make bootable installation media using the media creation tool at the link below.

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from the PC's support page.
