HP Chromebook - 14a-na0023cl

Hi all! Thank you for any help you can give. I have a Chromebook 14a and while watching YouTube last night I got a regular "Restart to Update" notification which I chose.  But when my screen came up to login, instead of wanting my HP Chromebook login, it was asking for my Google acct login.  I thought that was pretty odd but went ahead and put in my Google password. Weirdly, it took me to another screen saying, "Your password has changed since the last time you signed in", then "Your local data is protected by your old password.  Enter your old password to recover local data."  Ok so I entered my previous password which didn't work either.  I chose the only other option which was "Try another way".  It took me to a screen that gave me 2 choices, Cancel or Login with the msg again about local data being lost so I cancelled the process.

I was able to get on my Chromebook by being a guest which is what I'm using now.  I did notice during all this that the Google acct would sometimes show my current acct, (like at the beginning when I was trying to sign into my Chromebook) but then all the other places I was able to check as a guest, it showed an older acct/email.  I haven't used that acct since I used my tablet about 4 yrs ago.

Now, I was terrified to say the least that I would be locked out and loose all my local data so I tried going to my iPhone to see if I was still logged into my current email there, which I was.  Whew!  I did not logout but I did go and check my acct info and the only acct it had listed was the old email.  That scared me so I tried using my phone # to recover my acct and it worked.  I then changed my password and all seemed to be well except for my personal info.  It still showed the old email and no physical address which I have all my info in my current acct.  When I went to correct the info and add address, (again, this was being done in my phone so my personal info came up to fill in automatically) the address came up as a different town, close to where I live, but one I know I have never used before.  It let me correct it and enter my phone # and save everything.  I also checked my Google pay which info had expired so I updated that as well with success.  I tried restarting the Chromebook but it wouldn't even turn all the way on.  It briefly gave me the ChromeOS screen then immediately went off.  Out of frustration, I picked it up, turned it upside down and shook it, then ran my hand all across the keyboard and it came on.  Have no idea what was pushed to get that to happen.  Honestly I'm a bit confused here, not sure how I got to a screen to be able to change my password and get this strange msg, (sorry I didn't even think about taking a screenshot but I did take a pic of it with phone) and it read, "You'll stay signed in on these devices after changing your password:   - the device you are on now, and  - iPhone       You can sign out of any device that's connected to your account by visiting g.co/mydevices     So, success!  Or so I thought because now my phone # recovered my old acct but my current acct seems to be "lost"?

Also I went to the HP support site to get help and they tried sending me to a hard startup by turning on and pressing esc continuously until it brought up the hardware menu to run diagnostics without OS.  That didn't work.  Ignored the action and ended up at wrong login screen again.

I'm very lost.  I was told by me IT manager when I was working to not do anything, I knew just enough to be dangerous.  LOL  So I'm being as careful as I can.  Can someone please help me?  I am still logged onto my current acct on my phone, if that is needed for contact.

Sincerely,

fernymoss

Sorry for using the full email addresses.  I understand I wasn't supposed to give personal info.  I failed.  It was a big part of my problem.  Please I just need help.
