I tried - unsuccessfully - to boot my new Pavilion x360 with USB pen drive with Ubuntu Live but the pc always starts Windows 10, even ignoring changes of boot priority in bios. Why not ?
Please can you help me teaching me the correct actions and steps? Thanks in advance.

Solved !!: here below my solution to the problem.
The use of USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 flash drive for the “external” S.O. is indifferent.
No conflicts with the computer.
First of all you need a bootable Live USB drives for Ubuntu or other S.O.
I suggest the following software free that you have not to install on the pc:
Once you get the bootable USB drive with the S.O. mounted these are the following steps.
PC Bios modification steps:
- Power on → F10 :
- BIOS options start
select
- System Configuration
- Boot Options
- Legacy Support : modify from Disabled to Enabled
- Legacy Boot Order: put on top the USB … (option not necessary)
- F10 save and exit
- Stop the pc or press ESC for the next step
How to start S.O. from USB flash drive:
- Power on + ESC
- F9 (Boot device options)
- Select your USB flash drive
- Enter ...and follow the necessary options (eg if using Ubuntu → Try Ubuntu without installing)
Thanks for your attention.

Tapping Esc imediately after the phsical start button should bring a popup menu with the possiblity of choosing a boot option, with the bootable USB in a USB port. If it does not show the USB as a boot option, then there is something wrong with the way the USB is setup.

I changed the boot priority twice or more times (esc...F10...USB moved at top line, F10) but no result.
This is the reason because I posted the question.
In any case thanks for your prompt answer and happy new year !!

That would lead me to beleive that the USB is not a bootable source. Have you tried this USB drive on a different computer, just to verify it will boot?

Partially solved: Pressing F9 and turning on the pc I can see the internal HD and the USB drive (that contains SO Ubuntu - bootable and already tested with other pc included one old HP)
but the USB drive appears splitted in the following: boot, dists, casper, isolinux...and doesn't start "working".
Klicking on the various a,m, details seems to enter in sub-directories.
Thanks friend for the attention.

This " bootable and already tested with other pc included one old HP" Did the other PC actually boot to the USB, like is being attempted on this problem PC? IMHO, This still seems to be a ill prepared USB drive.
Take a look at this thread, see if that discussion helps.

Thanks for the link. The problem could be simply due to the different "technology" between the pc and the flash drive.
I'll prepare another USB 3.0 bootable flash drive instead of the actual USB 2: may be the solution.
I'll keep you informed.

Yes, I have heard that sometimes the USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 do not get along, especially when trying to make a bootable one.
