HP assistant indicated that there was a bios update to 1,59 so I installed it.
Once the install was complete and the computer rebooted it went through the usual sequence. Before loading the operating system, the "power on authentication" page displays two options. Sign in with a password or a finger scan. Before loading the new bios, I would swipe my finger and windows would load. To sign into windows, I would either scan my finger again or input my pin.
After installing bios 1.59, I scan my finger at the "power on authentication" page and what happens is I get the usual message that says "your fingerprint was verified" but the boot sequence stalls. I can see that the process is trying to continue but is stuck in a loop for some reason. It is not that my finger is not being recognized because it is. The message says fingerprint verified.
At this point I have no other choice than to select the "password" option. This would be fine but something is wrong even with this option. Once I select the password option the laptop makes a loud beep, similar to when memory is not installed properly or the CMOS battery is dead on a desktop. After entering the password, the laptop beeps three more times and windows loads. At this stage, there is no issue whether I enter a pin or scan my finger to sign in to windows. The fingerprint scanner recognizes my finger just fine and I can use the laptop.
Something changed after the new bios was installed. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I wish that I could revert to previous bios.

Hello everyone, after some persistence I was able to revert to bios 1.58 and all is good again. No more issues at the power on authentication page. The laptop completes the boot sequence and loads windows just fine now.
