I had to completely replace the motherboard of my laptop. HP Spectr x360. When I boot I get the following message:
PRODUCT INFORMATION NOT VALID
THE FOLLOWINGS PRODUCT INFORMATION PROGRAMMED INTO THE SYSTEM BOARD IS MISSINGOR INVALID:
PRODUCT NUMBER.
I have advanced computer knowledge and I see that it comes from a BIOS problem. Before doing anything unauthorized and tampering with the motherboard, I understand that this problem can be solved inside of mi OS. I still have the original operating system and recovery.
What I have already tried is to do a bios recovery and the problem is not solved.
I also tried to use the BCU but the changes are not saved when rebooting (I also took into account the folder with permissions and the location of the files to take the change). Inside my file I see that the MPM (Manufacture programming mode) is in a lock state, I think that is why the data is not saved.
Could you help me to put the PRODUCT NUMBER or in any case how to put the MPM in UNLOK status to make the change of my Product number? I still have the original box and I have all the data I need to load on the new motherboard. Thank you.

Hi @gutkin,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with booting up your HP laptop after replacing the motherboard.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, I'm here to help you today.
To address the "PRODUCT INFORMATION NOT VALID" error on your HP Spectre x360 and program the Product Number, you will need to unlock the Manufacture Programming Mode (MPM). Here's how to proceed:
1. Understanding MPM and Its Role
MPM is a restricted BIOS feature used to program essential system board information, such as Product Number and Serial Number, after a motherboard replacement. When MPM is locked, changes made using tools like the HP BIOS Configuration Utility (BCU) are not retained.
2. Verify Access to HP Support
The preferred and authorized way to unlock MPM is through HP Support. HP has proprietary tools (e.g., DMI tools) to unlock MPM temporarily for programming. Since you've replaced the motherboard, providing proof of ownership and original product details should suffice.
Contact HP Support and request assistance in programming the new motherboard. They may:
- Remotely assist in unlocking the MPM and guide you through the programming process.
- Provide an HP-authorized technician for on-site service.
3. Explore Using HP DMI Tools (Authorized Use Only)
If you have HP's original recovery image, it might include diagnostic utilities, but tools for MPM unlocking are usually restricted to HP technicians.
Note: Unauthorized use of these tools can void your warranty or cause irreversible damage. Ensure any action aligns with HP’s terms.
4. Alternative Solutions
- Check the system board documentation for any jumpers or switches related to MPM. Some motherboards have physical methods to temporarily unlock MPM.
- Update the BIOS to its latest version from the HP Support website. Sometimes, specific updates address compatibility issues with replaced motherboards.
Steps If MPM Unlock Is Granted:
- Enter BIOS Setup (press Esc or F10 at startup).
- Navigate to the appropriate section for programming system information.
- Input the original product details, such as Product Number and Serial Number.
- Save changes and exit.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a great day ahead!

It is not possible to modify data through the BIOS without modifying the data in its structure.
From inside the BIOS with the ESC and F10 keys, the option is blocked and does not allow to modify any data.
Could you tell me the contact details of the support ais can give me a solution?
I have communicated with the support that has hp from whatsApp, but they are not giving me any solution. What they tell me is that I have to talk to a local technician to solve the problem. What I need is that they provide me with the necessary tool to load my data.
