Hi @TomPrag,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP 14 laptop is not turning on, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and potentially fix the problem:
Check Power Source:
- Make sure your laptop is properly connected to a power source. If you're using a charger, ensure it's plugged in correctly to both the laptop and the power outlet. If you're using the laptop on battery power, ensure the battery is charged.
Power Button:
- Double-check that you're pressing the power button correctly and holding it for a few seconds. Some laptops require a longer press to power on.
Physical Inspection:
- Examine the laptop for any physical damage, loose connections, or visible issues. Check the power button area for any debris or obstruction.
Reset the Laptop:
- Disconnect the laptop from the power source and remove the battery (if it's removable). Then, press and hold the power button for around 15 seconds. This can discharge any residual power and reset the laptop.
Try Different Power Outlet:
- Plug the laptop into a different power outlet to make sure the issue isn't with the outlet itself.
Try a Different Charger:
- If possible, use a different charger or power adapter to rule out any issues with the charger.
Check for Indicator Lights:
- When you attempt to turn on the laptop, do you see any indicator lights, LEDs, or screen activity? These can provide lues about the problem.
External Display:
- Connect the laptop to an external monitor using the appropriate cable. If you see a display on the external monitor but not on the laptop screen, it could be a display-related issue.
Remove External Devices:
- Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.) from the laptop and try turning it on again. Sometimes, a malfunctioning external device can cause startup issues.
Reseat RAM and Hard Drive:
- If you're comfortable doing so, open up the laptop and reseat the RAM modules and the hard drive. Sometimes, loose connections can cause startup problems.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
