Notebook / Laptop HP Gaming 15.6'' Pavilion 15-bc415nq
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Ao i got this laptop about a month ago, everything was fine until one morning i wake up and see a message like “BIOS update failed”(i never did anything that could start the initial update) .After i’ve seen that the HP assistent was telling me to update bios with a red exclamation sign,i did so.This time  it worked but after this the laptop started freezing randomlly, especially when using Microsoft Edge browser, on all kind of sites. The only way to “unfreeze” was to force shut down from the button, mouse or keyboard or anything else was unresponsive.Once i turned it back again one time, the screen was black and the capa lock button light was flashing.I force shut it down and restarted again, it worked. But the freezing problem persists all the time and beside that, the laptop is most of the time slower than it was before.I’m on wireless connection and this happens both when laptop is plugged in or not plugged in .How can I fix it? This is happening for about 3-4 days now, since the update thingy .

@Adina14,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend do a power reset on the computer and check if it helps.

Here is how it is done.

  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.
  3. Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices, such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.
  4. Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
  5. Remove the battery from the battery compartment.
  6. Press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.
  7. Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.
  8. Press the Power button to turn on the computer.
  9. On the Options screen, select Continue and continue to Windows 10.
  10. If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, then press the Enter key.
  11. Reconnect each of the peripheral devices.

If you continue facing the issue, I recommend you follow the steps in the below article and check if it helps.

Hi! I managed to hard reset it, but it still doesn’t seem to work 😞 it’s still slow and when i turn it on, after enteringnmy password the screen goes black for about 30-40 seconds or so til it start. I also used the windows reset tool before hard resetting but nothing (i  had no answer here at that time)  , but nothing ... Also, there is a huge problem with video editing apps, they worked great before but now i cannot use them , the video previwes in editing mode run very slow and freeze .And PlayMemories Home (video editing and file transfering softwer for Sony Cams) doesn’t work at all anymore, it either doesn’t open or it opens and when i try to edit it says “unknown error has occured” I tried reinstalling but it’s still the same.It had no issues before the bios updat inccident

Done this.Still the same ... 😞 I also tried the tune up utility, command prompt for repairing possible damaged files in windows (found none), the hard drive test and the memory test (those that show up by pressing F2 i think?)

I appreciate alot the customer support of HP, it’s the best i’ve encountered, and this is the reason I’m also very patient, I really don’t want to return/send to warranty. If there is anything else I could try to fix it, I’ll do it .I don’t really know what the problem is but I was thinking maybe deleting eveything on the hard drive includin the OS and “starting over”?

I did this and it seems to work better, I’ll install all the drivers and updates, and after some more testing, I’ll come with an update and accept this as a solution if it’s all working ! 🙂
