My laptop is HP Windows 11. Yesterday night the battery of the laptop was 34%. It was not connected to an electric cable or charger. It was connected to a wireless airtel wifi. I was doing my work at MS Word. Suddenly the laptop went black and the caps lock light started blinking in the inner 3.2 which means 3 long blinks.followed by 2 short blinks. Today I opened it, once it closed automatically. And then a big beep sound started beeping at intervals. Everything is black and caps lock is blinking. Although it shuts down correctly If I force a shut down. Still when I power on the laptop, the same situation happens. How can I do my work?

Please help

Thanks

@Daksh30, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

Based on your description, your HP laptop is showing a black screen with blinking Caps Lock light in a 3.2 pattern (3 long blinks, 2 short blinks), followed by beeping sounds. This typically indicates a BIOS-level hardware error, specifically:

Blink Code 3.2 Meaning

  • 3 long blinks + 2 short blinks = BIOS recovery error or corrupted BIOS
  • The beeping confirms the system is unable to POST (Power-On Self-Test).

Steps to Resolve the Issue

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Disconnect the charger and any peripherals (USB drives, external monitors, etc.).
  2. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain residual power.
  3. Reconnect only the charger and try powering on.

Step 2: Attempt BIOS Recovery

HP laptops have a built-in BIOS recovery feature. Try this:

  1. Turn off the laptop completely.
  2. Press and hold the Windows key + B, then press and hold the power button for 2-3 seconds.
  3. Release all keys.
  4. If successful, the screen should show a BIOS recovery screen.

Step 3: Use External Display (Optional)

If the screen remains black, connect the laptop to an external monitor via HDMI to check if the display is redirected.

Step 4: Check for Battery or Power Issues

Since the battery was at 34% and not charging, it’s possible the laptop shut down due to low power and corrupted BIOS during shutdown.

  • Try powering on with charger connected.
  • If available, remove the battery (for models with removable batteries) and power on using AC only.

If none of the above steps work, we suggest you please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
