I woke up this morning to find that my laptop screen wouldn't turn on and the caps lock button blinks five times slowly and then four times fast.

I've read a couple things online saying that I need to remove the battery or RAM or something like that but I didn't want to risk damaging it worse. Does anyone have a video on how to do this properly on a Model 15 Laptop or an easier fix?

@customWWEGuy, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding laptop black screen!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect all peripheral devices from the laptop.
  • Disconnect the power adapter.
  • Remove the battery if it’s removable.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then try powering it on.

Check RAM:

  • If you are comfortable doing so, reseat or replace the RAM modules. Sometimes, improper seating of the RAM can cause startup issues.
  • Ensure you have proper guidance or access a specific repair video to walk you through this process.

Battery Check:

  • If the battery is easy to remove, try removing it and power on the laptop using only the power adapter.
  • This can help identify if the battery is causing the issue.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
