HP Elitebook 840 G1
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, when I turn on the laptop, it takes a while for Windows to come up!
It stays on the logo for several seconds, then a few seconds on the Windows 10 logo, then a few seconds on the screen
Is there no way to speed up this process?

Hello @irmacfa

Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting.

Could you elaborate on "several seconds" and "few seconds" - how exactly ?

Can you make a video of this (e.g. with a smartphone or camera) and upload it somewhere - e.g. in your Google Drive, iCloud drive, OneDrive, etc... ,,and give me a URL to see it ?

Hi,

Thank you very much - exactly what I wanted/needed.

Once you press the power-on button, there is a 10 seconds delay (BIOS/initial initialization), then we have about 10 second from Windows start to login screen and additiona 6 seconds = about 26 seconds.

The only problem I can see it the first 10 seconds.

You have listed your model is Elitebook 840 G1.

I have Elitebook 840 G3 in front of me - they are very very similar. I have used it to similate your issue and I believe I found the problem. I can offer you a possible solution.

In the BIOS there are several option for boot control.

So, once you start the computer, please start hitting Esc repeatedly (like tap-tap-tap-tap) from the keyboard until HP Start Menu appears. From the options there, press F10 or navigate to it to open BIOS.

Once in the BIOS, use touchpad or keyboard and move to "Advanced" tab

Go to "Boot Options".

There should be options "Startup Menu Delay (sec.)  xx secons"

Please, change this option to 0 (zero)

Also, make sure you check the option to enable "Fast startup"

Use the appropriate button to save these changes

Go to "Advanced" tab ->System Options

Make sure you check the option to enable "Turbo-boost"

Use the appropriate button to save these changes

Exit BIOS saving changes. Restart the entire system two times.  Do you notice any difference ?

In Windows, go to Control Panel > Power Options

Ensure Fast Start-up is enabled >> https://windowsable.com/how-to-enable-or-disable-fast-startup-in-windows-10/

Is there any difference? Is it resolved eventually ?

Thank you for your follow up
In bios, This option was set to 0 by default : Startup Menu Delay (sec.)  xx secons

I clicked "Turbo-boost"

I clicked "Fast startup"

This item was checked by default : https://windowsable.com/how-to-enable-or-disable-fast-startup-in-windows-10

But it still has a problem :Crying:

More interestingly, I have four of these laptops

Two typical 840 G1 models

Two Touch Models 840 G1

But the problem is the same for everyone

Is Windows 10 really incompatible?

Hello,

Windows 10 is compatible with this PC model. You can see it from the HP website, driver's page

Can you try to set it to 10 seconds, save, exit saving changes.

Then boot to Windows desktop.

Restart, boot to BIOS (F10), change to 0 (zero) seconds , then save, exit saving changes.

Test.

If this helps, stop here. If not, try this:

I can't test it now at the moment but can you try to update BIOS one more time over the existing version - from Firmware management - this method here >> https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00042629#AbT1

Let me know if this helps

To resolve this issue, why does not the company provide a compatible BIOS update?

HP Recommended

I am sorry about the issues you experience.

Could you please try my suggestion(s) posted above ?

I did some research on your issue:

Can you try to load into BIOS -> Advanced tab -> Built-In Device Options

Make sure you uncheck LAN / WLAN Auto Switching

Save the changes and exit BIOS saving the changes.

Any difference ?

It's true that the engineer now has another problem with the laptop's touch screen, which is different from the non-touch-up version of the laptop. When I turn on the laptop, the black screen then starts displaying the logo after a few seconds and then logging in to Windows

It also has an SSD

Hi @irmacfa

Thank you for your update/posting back.

Who is this engineer and do you need assistance with the touch screen ? What kind of issues you experience with it - please, provide details? Would it be OK for you to describe this screen problem in another thread so that we keep it clean ?

With regards to your slow boot up issue - can I assume that the issue has been resolved ? If there is a difference now, would you be able to take another video and post it here ?

Thanks
