I recently formatted an external HDD to my computer since regularly plugging it in wasn't making it appear. After formatting it worked fine, until I closed the lid. After coming back about 2 hours later I was greeted with a 3f0 error. I checked the optane thing in BIOS and it says my SSD is disabled. Don't know what to do please help this is excruciating.

I had already tried booting it without the HDD plugged in. I figured it out myself. My BIOS was corrupted and wasn't reading any of the drives at all. Found that out by holding Windows + B. Told me it was corrupted but I couldn't fix it since the UEFI was also not up to date. Ended up needing to sideboot windows on a hard drive and then updated the UEFI and fixed the BIOS. Problem solved after that.

From your description, it sounds like your laptop is trying to boot from the external drive -- and that will not work.

You have to leave the drive disconnected when you reboot and reconnect it after that is done.
