Can you give me any suggestions as to what is causing this? Thanks

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand, your notebook does not stay on while you're connecting

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Does the charging port on your notebook seem to be loose?

Have you tried connecting the charger to a different wall outlet?

Have you tried an alternate charger?

If not, I suggest you try another charger and check if the same issue occurs.

Also, try connecting the charger to a different wall outlet.

Run hardware test:

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

  3. On the main menu, click Component Tests.

  4. Select Power test/ AC Adapter Test.

  5. Click Run once. The AC Adapter Test begins.

  6. When the test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen.

If it fails the tests, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) so you have it available when you contact HP Customer Support. The information is also available in Test Logs on the main menu.

If the issue persists, after trying the steps as mentioned, please contact our phone support:

HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link:

* Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

* Enter Product number or select to auto detect

* Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

* Scroll down and click on HP contact options - click on Get a Case & phone number.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty repair services under the manufacturer's warranty will be free of charge.

Hi Flower_Bud;       Thank You Very Much for the reply.. I already ran all the test and they passed, except i am not sure about the adapter test will do that asap. the first thing i checked for was the looseness of the charging adapter and it was ok, I have the adapter pluged into a circuit breaker not the wall. i dont have an old charger except an old acer laptop that someone gave me and is not working, can that be used?

btw this is very important, when ever the battery is in the laptop even when not using wifi it does not shut off on me.

I am not at my laptop at this time will try you suggestions tomorrow and get back to you, i will also try to plug it into a different wall socket by it self. Be talking to you then, I will look into my mail just before doing the above just incase you have other ideas. Thank You, Later.

Flower_bud    I tried to start it up today without the battery again and it failed three times, so it went into auto repair mode. it found nothing wrong, so i plugged it into a different socket in another room and so far it is running good. I will run it for a few hours to see if it goes off again. if it does not i will wait awhile and restart the laptop using the same outlet and see if it shuts off. Will let you know, but so far it looks promising! Thanks
