My laptop doesn’t boot up or respond to a soft reset. It goes to a black screen and the Caps Lock button blinks

Hi @T2Pinder,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand that you are getting the blinking Caps Lock light on your HP laptop, combined with a black screen and no boot, typically indicates a hardware or firmware issue. The number and pattern of blinks are a diagnostic code. Here's how to troubleshoot it:

Step 1: Identify the Blink Code

Count the number of long and short blinks from the Link shared and see what kind of blink you notice: HP Notebook PCs - Computer beeps or a light blinks during startup | HP® Support

Let me know the exact blink pattern if you're unsure what it means.

Step 2: Hard Reset

  1. Disconnect the power adapter.
  2. Remove the battery (if removable).
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect power (without battery if removable) and try booting.

Step 3: BIOS Recovery

If the blink code suggests a BIOS issue:

  1. Hold Windows + B (or Windows + V) keys.
  2. While holding, press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
  3. Release the Power button but keep holding the keys for 10–15 seconds.
  4. If successful, the screen should light up and begin BIOS recovery.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
