4 days ago my laptop started to repeatedly blue screen and boot up repeat, so I decided to just try and full wipe it. It kept freezing during the process and would not move after hours of waiting so I had to restart it every time it paused. I eventually got to where it looked like it was going to reset it only for it to freeze at 99% and when I rebooted it it has since only shown a black screen with a line of LEDs flashing in the middle right of the screen from top to bottom a few times, followed by a flash of LEDs across the whole screen. I have tried going into BIOS mode by spamming esc and nothing works. Please help!

Hi @Cheezekake ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Laptop (15-ef0025wm) may have encountered a serious issue during the reset process, which has likely caused the system to be stuck in a boot loop with a black screen and flashing lights.
Here are a few troubleshooting steps to try:
1. Hard Reset the Laptop
- Step 1: Shut down the laptop.
- Step 2: Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, external monitors, etc.) and unplug the charger.
- Step 3: Press and hold the Power button for 15-20 seconds to discharge any remaining power.
- Step 4: Connect the charger (without the battery if it's removable), and try turning it back on.
2. Try a Different Boot Method (Boot from USB)
- If you have access to another computer, create a Windows 10 installation media using a USB drive:
- Go to the Microsoft Windows 10 Download Page.
- Download and run the Media Creation Tool.
- Follow the instructions to create a bootable USB drive.
- Step 1: Insert the bootable USB into the affected laptop.
- Step 2: Turn on the laptop and repeatedly press Esc or F9 to access the boot options.
- Step 3: Select the USB drive to boot from.
- Step 4: Follow the prompts to either try a repair or reinstall Windows.
3. Perform a BIOS Recovery
- Step 1: Turn off the laptop and disconnect the power.
- Step 2: Hold down the Windows + B keys together.
- Step 3: While holding the keys, press the Power button for a few seconds.
- Step 4: Release the Power button (but keep holding Windows + B) until the BIOS recovery screen appears or the system starts a BIOS recovery.
- Step 5: Follow any on-screen instructions to attempt a BIOS recovery.
4. Try Connecting to an External Display
- Connect the laptop to an external monitor or TV using an HDMI cable to check if the issue is with the laptop’s display or something more serious like the motherboard.
- Press Windows + P on your keyboard and select Duplicate to try and force the laptop to display on both screens.
5. Check for Diagnostic LEDs or Beeps
- Check if the flashing lights or the pattern of the LEDs match any known HP diagnostic error codes. You can refer to the HP support page for your model to decode the specific blinking pattern, as it may indicate a hardware failure (like memory or motherboard issues).
6. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures
If the laptop powers on but doesn’t boot, try accessing HP UEFI diagnostics:
- Turn on the laptop and immediately press F2 repeatedly.
- This should bring up the hardware diagnostic tool, where you can run tests on memory, hard drive, etc.
Refer to this document: HP Laptop - 15-ef0025wm User manual
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
