HP 255 G6 AMD A6-9220
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have a HP laptop (HP 255 G6 AMD A6-9220) that is 7 months out of it's 1 year warranty. It just switched off without warning and would not start up again. There are no lights on. I took it to a local repair shop, they have told me mainboard has failed and it's beyond repair. I tried the HP Troublshooting/Automated assistant and could not get any help. Is there anything that can be done to save the laptop and data on it?

if you have any other laptop or desktop data can be saved or copied from old hard disk to the computer

Hi,

When you attach the ac adapter does the charging light come on?

To recover the data from the drive. On page 45of service manual you can see the steps to remove the hard drive,

You can then use a SATA to USB adapter to recover the files from the drive.

Example:

https://www.amazon.com/SATA-Drive-Adapter-Cable-Black/dp/B07FDTY299/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=sata+to+usb&...

Hope it helps,

David

Thanks David, really appreciate the advice. Shame that the laptop isn't usable any more but hopefully the data is recoverable, I'll give it a go.

Seems such a waste that a product that's only 18 months old now has to go to landfill (I guess some parts are recyclable, but you get my point), its such a sad reflection of product quality and society today. What happened to building things to last?

Hi,

Yes, it can happen that the motherboard just gives out. You could try bringing to a different technician. Maybe someone who does not charge for diagnostics. You see it is difficult to try and help without having the machine in the shop. These are some of the things I would try.

Different RAM

See if power is arriving to the motherboard

Remove the battery and try without battery

Try different ac adapter

Remove everything from the motherboard and only leave RAM and screen attached (and power button to turn on)
