Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I used my laptop then closed it and left it for a couple of hours I came back and I heard the fan stopping and starting but didn't think much of it. When I opened it again it shows:

the logo, then the dots, then 'Attempting to recover installation', then 'Undoing changes made to your computer' and then restarts and just keeps doing that on loop.

I have tried the solution from here, but the System Diagnostics doesn't show any issues so it doesn't offer a solution.

I also tried going to the advanced options section and tried Start Up Repair but it says that it can't fix the issue and System Restore can't find a point recorded to restore the PC, I can't remember if it was this option but one of them said to Reset the PC.

Is there any other option instead of resetting? Although it says to reset and keep my files I'm hesitant because it doesn't seem to work beyond the start up screen so if something goes wrong I could loose everything.

Please Help 😟

I'm also not sure what installation it is talking about as I don't remember installing anything recently.

@Mim009

This is Wednesday and Windows Update patches get pushed out every Tuesday, so this is most likely a failed Windows Update.

Microsoft then tries to recover from that, but that fails, so it's trying over and over again -- and will never succeed because Windows Update got corrupted in the process.

These problems were reported with KB4532693 back in February of 2020, and more recently, with KB4556799. Unfortunately, this is NOT a new issue with Win10 Windows Updates.

First thing you need to do is see if you can restart in Safe mode -- by doing these steps: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2304-boot-into-safe-mode-windows-10-a.html

If you don't know how to start using Advanced Startup Options, then read this: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-boot-advanced-startup-options-windows-10-a.html

Then, follow these steps to reset Windows Update: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/24742-reset-windows-update-windows-10-a.html

If these work, when you finally reboot, you should then be able to login to a working Windows desktop.

Hi @WAWood,

Happy new year!

Thank you for taking the time to reply and my apologies for getting round to trying your solution so late.

I have been able to get to advance start up only by pressing ESC at start-up then F11, because it keeps turning off.

I have tried to boot in Safe mode with Networking however it isn't connecting to the Wi-Fi and my laptop doesn't have an ethernet port, so I can't seem to download the .bat file from the link onto the laptop. Is there any other way to do this?

Thank you in advance 🙂
