So I've been having this problem for quite a while now that my laptop sometimes randomly shuts down when I'm gaming (happening in multiple games not just one) and after trying to turn it on the screen stays black and nothing happenes except my capslock flashes 5 times and 3 times rapidly, then stays off for a second and then repeats the cycle again. I can hold the power button so it turns off completely and then when I turn it on it boots normally and works just fine. It's really annoying and I'm hoping that this issue can be resolved.

Hi@TimCrafter,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Apologies for all the inconvenience
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,
The only option to reimage the operating system to factory settings.
- Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
- Click Advanced system settings.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- In the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings.
- Click to clear the Automatically restart check box.
If you've been using the Recovery Partition (F11) to reinstall the OS, I recommend using the Recovery media instead to wipe out the HDD and create a new partition and fresh OS installation: Click here to obtain one, if you don't have on in your possession.
or HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10) Link
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Sorry for writing back that late, unfortunately this didn't work for me. In fact I completely wiped my SSD and HDD as well and made a clean windows install using download, however the issue is still present.
