My hp pavillion gaming laptop 15-dk1477ng doesnt start after booting down normally yesterday evening.

Operating system is Windows 11

I didnt change any hard or software yesterday.

On startup it shows a black screen and a blinking caps lock with the error code of 5 long blinks and 3 short ones.

The battery of the laptop cannot be removed easily without opening up the laptop.

Got any ideas what i could do?

Hi @Hansi_Faschingl,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the laptop and disconnect the AC adapter from the device.
  • Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to drain residual power.
  • Reconnect the AC adapter, and try to power on the laptop without connecting any peripherals.

Check for External Devices:

  • If there are any external devices connected (such as USB drives, external keyboards, etc.), disconnect them and try booting again.

Verify Connections:

  • Since the battery isn't easily removable, ensure all connections internally are secure. If you're comfortable, you might open the laptop and check the connections for memory modules and storage devices. This step is typically recommended to be done by professionals.

Boot with Minimum Configuration:

  • If possible, ensure only essential hardware components are connected during booting—this means no additional peripherals or devices attached.

Use HP Diagnostics Tool:

  • If available, run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics from a USB drive. This tool can help identify the exact issue even when the laptop can't boot into Windows.

Attempt to Boot into BIOS:

  • Power off the laptop. Once powered on, rapidly press the Esc key or F10 to see if you can access the BIOS Setup Utility. If you can, restore the BIOS settings to default or try updating the BIOS if possible.

I hope this helps.

Thank you

I ended up opening up my Laptop, checking all connections, disconnecting and reconnecting the battery.

That fixed the issue.

What the exact problem was is not clear for me though.

Thanks for the help thus far again.

The problem just reappeared. I will open up the Laptop tomorrow again and see if that fixes it once more.

If that works, how do i check what the actual problem was? I would like to prevent any further problems occuring.

Thank you very much
