Hello,

About a month or two ago I started having these issues where my laptop would sometimes shut off the screen and I wouldn't be able to wake it back up; I'd have to shut it off and then back on again. It happened a few times but then lately, I've had a few blue screens pop up the last few days with

stop code: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

This particular blue screen happened before I installed the Windows 20H2 update.

Whereas, the following blue screen error with

stop code: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

happened after I installed the 20H2 update.

And currently my laptop is frozen on startup while preparing auto repair which I didn't initiate.

Does anyone have any idea whats happening and how to fix it, thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, this message nearly always means that a recent Windows Update failed and Microsoft then tried to recover from that, but that failed, so it's trying over and over again -- and will never succeed because Windows Update got corrupted in the process. Unfortunately, this is NOT a new issue with Win10 Windows Updates.

This problem is very difficult, if not impossible to fix -- from the standpoint of making repairs and leaving your stuff intact. Some steps for trying this are listed below, but they are very hard to do and if they do not work, you are faced with doing a complete Windows reinstallation to get your PC back working again.
----------

First thing you need to do is see if you can restart in Safe mode -- by doing these steps: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2304-boot-into-safe-mode-windows-10-a.html

If you don't know how to start using Advanced Startup Options, then read this: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-boot-advanced-startup-options-windows-10-a.html

Then, follow these steps to reset Windows Update: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/24742-reset-windows-update-windows-10-a.html

If these work, when you finally reboot, you should then be able to login to a working Windows desktop.

If these don't work, then report that back here as we will then have to provide you information on reinstalling Windows.

Hello, thanks for the quick reply, yesterday in order to avoid the battery draining while it was stuck in auto repair I shut it down (normally I wouldn't have done this but had no power at home to continue running it);

today after power was restored I plugged it in to charge and then turned it on, and to my suprise it's actually working, but I'm noticing minor lag with loading thumbnails in file explorer for videos and pictures etc. is this normal? Like if I open a folder it takes a second or two to load the thumbnails, but if I open the same folder a second time it loads quickly & flawlessly. I don't know if it's just fear but I don't think I ever noticed this before. Thanks for your help.
