Hello!

So, yesterday, I was working and listening to music when I suddenly got the blue screen of Death. My laptop was going a bit crazy this while so I wasn't surprised.

However, when I tried to turn it on, it got stuck on the lockscreen and I couldn't do anything. I could see my cursor and move it, but that's all there was.

It would get stuck on a grey screen with a late clock, and if I leave it be for a few minutes, my lockscreen wallpaper would appear and so would the battery and internet icons at the bottom right corner. But, I still wasn't able to do anything.

I tried starting in Safe mode, and it did, only in normal Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Command Prompt; Safe Mode with Networking would come up with the same results. I also did a BIOS recovery but it was useless. Right now, I'm doing a system recovery, and it said it would revert to a system point and delete a game I didn't care about.

I hope it works, but is there anything I should do? Thanks a lot.

@SaraFZ
Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. I would suggest let's wait until the recovery process completes.
Please work on it as per your convenience and keep me posted on the results.

Hi again. I did the recovery thing twice, but both times it failed to extract the system point, so I gave up. I also did a full scan on the laptop (I don't really remember what I exactly did, but I think it was sfc /scannow) and I found a corrupted boot file, bootres.dll, I wonder if it has anything to do with this?

Anyways, I also disconnected and reconnected both the hard drive and its cables, and the memory, but it was fruitless. And, after giving up, I reset the laptop but kept my personal files, and the only change that happened was that it wasn't stuck on the lock screen, it would be stuck on the log-in screen, but without the picture and box where I write the password and so on, nothing but three icons in the bottom right corner, which are also stuck and I can't use them.

Is there anything else I didn't do? Please, I really need this laptop, thanks.

Hi @SaraFZ

Welcome to the HP Support Forum!

It sounds like your having an issue with the password or lock screen not displaying when you turn on the computer. Go to Computer Starts but Screen Remains Blank (Windows 10).

Let me know if that helps.

Hello. None of the three problems listed are the same as mine, however, I already did most of the things as instructed, but they were also useless.
