HP Recommended

I never heard from the other "appropriate" team. I guess since I'm out of warranty, I'm out of luck. 

 

However, I took the laptop to a local repair shop (Device Pitstop--a franchise outfit that friends have used and rate highly). They were able to power the laptop on and off multiple times, updated the drivers, and returned it to me. It cost me a $50 diagnostic fee, but the laptop works fine again. DP couldn't find anything wrong with the hardware.  I guess if this happens again, I will just take it to them and decide how many times I want to pay their fee before I invest in another laptop from another company.
