I got a laptop just this may for my birthday because I needed a new one and now today 08/30 it just won't turn on. It's charging but won't turn on, I've tried taking out the battery and holding the power button to let off energy but that did nothing. Can someone help please.

Hi @D43d_or_4l1ve

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this—especially with a brand-new laptop that should still be working perfectly. If your HP laptop is charging but not turning on, even after a battery reset, we’ll walk through several steps to try and revive it.

Let’s start with the most effective methods for this issue.

1. Perform a Full Hardware Reset (Battery & Static Discharge)

You already tried this, but let’s make sure it’s the complete process:

If the battery is removable:

Unplug the power adapter

Remove the battery

Press and hold the power button for 30–60 seconds

Reinsert the battery and plug in the charger

Try turning it on

If the battery is internal (non-removable):

Unplug the charger

Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds

Plug the charger back in

Try turning it on again

Sometimes this takes 2–3 tries if there’s residual static preventing startup.

2. Try a Key Combo – "Hard Reset + Power On"

Some HP laptops have a forced reset combo that can help:

Press and hold:
Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B
(You might hear a beep or flicker if the system responds)

3. Check the Power Adapter and Charging Light

Is the charging LED light on (usually near the power port)?

If the light blinks orange/white, it could indicate a hardware issue

Try a different charger if available, or test yours on another HP laptop

4. Try External Display (for Screen Issues)

It’s possible the laptop is turning on but the screen is black.

Try:

Plugging into an external monitor or TV via HDMI

Turn on the laptop and press:
Fn + F4 (or just F4) to switch display output

Look for any sign of life—lights, fan noise, or external display activity.

5. BIOS Recovery / Firmware Wake-Up

HP laptops have a BIOS recovery feature you can try.

Try this:

Turn the laptop off completely

Hold Windows key + B

While holding those keys, press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds, then release the power button (keep holding the other keys)

Wait for a BIOS recovery screen

If the screen appears, follow prompts to restore the BIOS

6. Look for Physical Indicators

While trying to power on:

Does the caps lock light blink?

Do you hear fan spinning or beep codes?

If the caps lock blinks in a repeating pattern, it may be a hardware failure code. Let me know if you see this—each pattern has a meaning.

If any lights blink (especially caps lock or power light)

If you hear any fan noise or sounds when pressing power

Your exact model (if known)

I’ll help you move forward depending on the response—whether that’s deeper troubleshooting or getting warranty service.

Hi there thank you so much for offering help I tried removing the battery one more time nothing seemed to come from that. My laptop normally has a light that comes on on the power button when it turns on and that's not turning on either, my laptop is a HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-fd0000 (794H8AV) if that helps at all?
