When I open my laptop to the password page and type in my password it says "your PC is offline. Please sign in with the last password used in this PC." I've had the same password for two years...

Allow me to welcome you to the HP Support Community!

From your description, it sounds like you were using an MSN login to access your PC.

Here are instructions for resetting that:  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hub/4294457/microsoft-account-help
