My computer would not boot up suddenly and could not run diagnostics because computer would not provide any options for running anything.  It was only 2 years old and only home use for basic duties.  I will not be buying another HP if this is a common occurrence.  Apparently mother board is out and since i have never had one crash this quick I usually do not buy extended warranty.

@MELBAMA, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the mother board!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I completely understand how frustrating it must be, especially since you’ve taken good care of your device and were using it for basic tasks. Unexpected hardware failures can be disappointing, and I truly empathize with your situation.

From what you described, it does sound like a potential motherboard issue. Since your device is out of warranty, repair services would come with a nominal fee. If you’d like, I can guide you on how to check available repair options. Let me know if you’re interested, and I’ll be happy to help.

Before proceeding with repairs, let’s try a few basic troubleshooting steps:

Power Reset:

  • Disconnect the power adapter and remove any peripherals (USB devices, external monitors, etc.).
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power adapter and try turning the laptop on.

Check for LED Indicators:

  • When you press the power button, do you see any LED lights blinking or hear any fan noise?
  • If you notice a blinking LED pattern, let me know the sequence—it could indicate an error code.

External Display Check:

  • Try connecting your laptop to an external monitor using HDMI. If the external screen works, the issue might be with your laptop display rather than the motherboard.

BIOS Recovery Attempt:

  • Turn off the laptop and then press and hold the Windows + B keys while pressing the power button.
  • If the BIOS recovery screen appears, follow the on-screen instructions.

Let me know if this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
