probook 6360b
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello.Sorry but I'm a noobie.I just received a very nice probook 6360b I purchased off ebay.It arrived with a locked bios.I tried different approaches and finally using the HPBR utility.I did something wrong,I guess as it removed the password along with all the system board information. The product name, serial number and CT number are all blank.I did update the BIOS to the latest version, but didn't help.I got this for my nephews birthday and now I've messed it up.Any help would br greatly appreciated..Thanks.

There are several YouTube videos on fixing the issue-using the info from labels on the laptop. Other than that-you will need to contact HP to reinsert the missing info.

Hello CherylG,

I appreciate your response and help. After obviosly doing something wrong,I'm now a little gun shy about going further but I will do as you recommend and proceed slowly as my technical skills are limited.I'll post back if I have failure or success.

Thanks

I've been searching online for four hours and have found that I need the: DMIFIT tool and HPBQ138.EXE,files.As yet I havn't found them anywhere that I can trust. My AV has caught three trojans so far.The HP website is confusing and USELESS to me.I'm sorry but I see instructions on doing this but the needed files are out of my inexperenced reach.I started by using RUFUS to make a bootable flash drive,I think, according to a video I found but then needed the DMIFIT tool and after hours of search, here I an.Please let me know if I'm even going in the right direction.I don't want to waste your or anyones time but I'm lost and over my head.I'm starting to think this very nice laptop isn't worth it.Thanks.Sean.

I fully understand and appreciate the help given. When searching for something like the files I needed,I had to deal with some unscrupulous and misleading websites..Maybe the link I provided can help someone else in my position..The utility HPBQ138 did not work for my 6360b,but the procedure outlined in the final link I provided worked great..I just couldn't find my laptops CT# anywhere,so I just made up a random 14 digit number and it worked just fine..Win 10 installed and activated and it it boots just fine now..I'm going to post another question soon..I have a 6560b that has a strange audio issue that I can't figure out..Thanks,Sean.
